12/10/2023 0 Comments Shoebox cashflow analysis![]() There are ways this can be done that makes it easier for your bookkeeper and yourself as a business owner. ![]() The only way that any business owner can be on top of the expenses going out of their business is to track it regularly. ![]() The problem with “shoebox accounting” is that expenses are not totaled up in a timely fashion and waiting to the year end to find out how much you are have spent on items does not allow you to readjust your spending plan. With regular reporting, it allows a business owner to adjust your spending plan to ensure you are not unnecessarily spending money for items you may not require and to avoid overstocking inventory that is not moving. Managing cash flow is the often the biggest challenge for business owners. My goal is to share my many experiences and “what the heck” moments with business owners so they have tools to avoid unnecessary charges that negatively affect their cash flow. In this way, these tips may help businesses to be as successful as they can.īeing aware of all the expenses that are going out of your business is key as if you are to be able to effectively manage available cash flow. Tracking your expenses through “shoebox accounting” is not effective in managing your expenses as it is time-consuming, to organize, sort and enter into a system. The biggest drawback is the lack of timeliness of the reporting of expenses. Why is Cash Flow so important? The key in having a “successful” business is to have liquidity, also known as available cash, to allow you and your business to be able to stay on top of your expenses, or plan for expansion, or to be able to replace equipment as needed and/or to obtain the ultimate goal, to have excess available cash, which is also known as “profit”. Definition of “Cash Flow” is money coming in and going out of your business. The goal is to have more cash flowing in than going out as the many expenses going out, affects the available cash you must work with.
